Organized by the Hagner marathon team under the direction of Rainer and Ilonka Hagner, the event has established itself as an integral part of the regional running calendar and is becoming increasingly popular. On Sunday, September 20, 2026, the unique competition will once again be held around the Oberstein market square and the Schlossberg. There will once again be a short course of around 5400 meters and a long course of around 8100 meters. What makes the run so spectacular are the steps: 350 steps with 246 meters of altitude difference for the short run and 510 steps and 468 meters of altitude difference for the long version.
During a visit to the town hall, Rainer Hagner informed Lord Mayor Frank Frühauf about the current status of preparations. So far, 35 runners have already registered, which is a very pleasing figure four months before the event. He hopes to beat last year's record of 128 participants this year. The sponsors and the team of helpers have also been loyal to the organizers for years, as Hagner proudly explains.
The route for this year's Felsenkirche stair run will be a major challenge for the organizing team led by Rainer Hagner. Due to the extensive rock stabilization measures in the area of the Schlossberg, the final route can probably only be determined shortly before the event. "But the participants can be sure that it will be a challenging route as always," emphasizes Hagner, who is also happy to lend a hand in clearing the paths himself.
Mayor Frühauf thanks Rainer Hagner for his special commitment and is looking forward to taking part in the event again this year and giving the starting signal. As a token of thanks for his long-standing commitment and support, Hagner presented the Lord Mayor with a drawing of the Felsenkirche drawn by Lennox Düren, who has already taken part in the Felsenkirche stair run himself. There are only three of the Felsenkirche pictures. A prominent place for the picture was quickly found in the Lord Mayor's office.
- To prepare for the stair run, the Hagner marathon team will once again be offering regular running meetings from May 12, 2026. Every Tuesday at 6.30 pm, runners can get to know the route and train for the competitions. The meeting point is always at the Oberstein market square.
