Renovation work on the Nahe overpass in Idar-Oberstein—specifically the section between the Otto-Decker-Straße and B 422 interchanges in the direction of Birkenfeld—is proceeding according to schedule and is expected to be completed on August 7, 2026.
The next phase of construction will then focus on the Otto-Decker-Straße intersection itself in the direction of Birkenfeld. To this end, traffic traveling in this direction must be diverted in a single lane onto the opposite carriageway starting at the Stadttheater intersection and then routed back onto the original lane at the B 422 intersection (Modepark Röther). Traffic heading toward Bad Kreuznach will also be directed in a single lane from the B 422 intersection to the Stadttheater intersection.
Trucks traveling from the B 41 toward Bad Kreuznach are still unable to turn right onto the B 422 at the B 422 intersection. Truck traffic must therefore be rerouted to the B 41, the interconnection road, and back again.
In addition, the one-way traffic regulation on Austraße will be lifted, so that traffic from Otto-Decker-Straße heading toward Austraße/B 41 can merge back onto the federal highway at the Stadttheater intersection, and at the same time, traffic from the B 41 heading toward Otto-Decker-Straße can be directed onto Austraße starting at the Stadttheater intersection.
This ensures that all directions of travel and intersecting traffic flows remain open to passenger car traffic.
Starting on August 8, 2026, the existing traffic signal systems will be reprogrammed and the new traffic routing will be implemented. Construction work for the next phase will then begin on August 10, 2026, and is expected to continue through mid-September.
This will be followed by the final phase of construction at the Otto-Decker-Straße intersection, involving repairs to the roadway in the direction of Bad Kreuznach.
Construction on the entire project is expected to be completed in October 2026.
