Under the theme “Parent Participation Time at the Daycare,” the Regulshausen Daycare opened its doors to parents so they could work together to prepare and organize an active and creative morning, thereby taking part in daily daycare life. The key to this initiative was to involve parents not as “spectators,” but as experts in their own abilities.
Collaborating with parents as partners is very important because it ensures the holistic development of each child and builds trust between parents and educators. Furthermore, communicative, reflective, and respectful dialogue strengthens the sense of community, and the participatory and varied structure of daily life at the daycare center supports the children’s development.
The project was planned and carried out over a period of several weeks. The response was overwhelming, and the moms offered a wide variety of activities: While baking, the whole house was filled with the aroma of cookies, chocolate croissants made with puff pastry, pizza wraps, and chocolate rolls. With concentration and great enthusiasm, the children actively helped out and then enjoyed the treats. During gym class, a creative movement course was set up, and musical movement games were offered. The children handled the challenging tasks brilliantly, generating plenty of excitement, fun, and joy. During arts and crafts, they created colorful, creative, and imaginative projects that they proudly took home as souvenirs.
The team at the Regulshausen daycare center gave the project an overwhelmingly positive review. It’s wonderful to see how much joy and fun the moms and children had trying things out together. Days like these greatly strengthen the daycare community. Following this lasting success, the team is certain: they’ll definitely plan another session. Maybe the next time the daycare holds a hands-on activity, it’ll be the dads’ turn.
