The federal highway was closed for several months last year and this year due to major renovation work, which required a wide-area detour for through traffic via the towns of Veitsrodt and Vollmersbach. This detour can now be lifted just in time for the start of the Veitsrodt Premium Market.
On March 5, 2025, work began on Tiefensteiner Straße between Weiherschleife and the Grimm senior living complex. On this approximately 440-meter-long section, the road and sidewalks were upgraded, and the street lighting as well as the utility systems for water, sewer, gas, electricity, and telecommunications were replaced or renovated. In addition, the bridge structure near the “Weiherschlösschen” was also renovated as part of the improvement project. After work was suspended for the winter break starting December 15, 2025, and traffic was temporarily allowed to flow again, the project resumed on February 18, 2026, and can now be completed as scheduled.
New Traffic Regulations on Tiefensteiner Straße
With the opening of through traffic on Tiefensteiner Straße, a change to the traffic routing will take effect there. As decided by the City Council, a protected bike lane will be marked on the side of the road leading toward Kirschweiler, in the section between Weiherschleife and the Bachweg intersection. The markings will initially be applied in the section under construction between Weiherschleife and the Grimm senior living complex. The remainder of the protected bike lane will be marked at a later date. At that time, the signage will also be updated accordingly.
Cyclists have the right of way on the bike lane. Other vehicles may use it only in exceptional cases, such as to avoid oncoming trucks or buses. However, this must not endanger or obstruct bicycle traffic. In addition, parking and stopping are strictly prohibited on the bike lane.
