This year, the Wasenstrasse district will once again be celebrating its Wasenfest on Saturday, May 9, 2026, to mark "Urban Development Day". This year, an information evening on energy-efficient refurbishment will complement the festival program. The event thus shows how diverse urban development funding is and has something in store for all generations.
At the Wasenfest from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the courtyard of the former Flurschule, there is plenty on offer, especially for children. After being welcomed by Lord Mayor Frank Frühauf, guests young and old can expect not only a visit from the Gemstone Queen Vivian Heidrich, but also a hands-on artistry workshop. Institutions from and around the neighborhood will also be offering creative and exercise activities as well as food and drinks. While the children romp around, parents can relax and find out about what's on offer and the current status of the structural upgrading measures in the neighborhood and have the opportunity to chat with each other.
Following the festival program, an information evening on renovation advice will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. in the parish hall of St. Walburga Church, Heckweg 9. The event is just a few minutes' walk from the Wasenfest.
The Rhineland-Palatinate Consumer Advice Center will first give a practical overview of the energy-efficient refurbishment of old buildings in a presentation. The focus will be on the question of which refurbishment measures make sense and in what order they can be implemented in existing buildings. From 7 p.m., the refurbishment management team will provide information on private modernization measures in the Wasenstrasse district. The local funding opportunities will be presented, with grants of up to 30,000 euros, tax benefits and free support from an experienced specialist office, which will assist owners from the application stage through to completion of the measure. After the two presentations, the speakers will be available to answer your questions.
Made possible by the "Social Cohesion" urban development funding programme, the day is jointly organized by local activists, urban planning, neighbourhood management and redevelopment management. The "Day of Urban Development Promotion" makes visible nationwide how cities and municipalities are developing their neighborhoods. In Idar-Oberstein, this becomes a concrete offer: inform, meet and experience how the urban quarter is changing step by step with the help of structural and social measures.
