Smoking ban in restaurants in Rhineland-Palatinate
Service description
The purpose of the law is to protect the population from exposure and health impairments caused by tobacco smoke (passive smoke exposure)
Smoking has been banned in the catering trade in Rhineland-Palatinate since 15.02.2008
Exceptions:
- in separate adjoining rooms, if the floor space and the number of seats in the adjoining rooms with a smoking permit are not larger than in the other smoke-free guest rooms
- in one-room restaurants under 75 m², if no or only simply prepared food is served in the restaurant for consumption on the spot as a subordinate ancillary service
- in marquees with a standing time of up to 21 days

Smoke-free establishments are:- Theaters
- Cinemas
- Museums
- Homes for the elderly
- Nursing homes
- Hospitals, preventive care and
rehabilitation facilities
- Schools
- Sports facilities
- Universities and universities of applied sciences
- Adult education facilities
