Drinking water charge

Local water utilities are responsible for supplying drinking water to the public. Information about the respective water utility can be obtained from the municipal or city administration.

The provision of drinking water to residents or customers must be cost-recoverable. The respective supplier therefore charges a fee for the direct delivery of drinking water, which—depending on the basis of calculation—is divided into a basic fee and a fee per cubic meter consumed, or is charged solely as a volume-based fee.
The customer is required to pay a one-time fee toward the cost of a new connection.

The amount of the drinking water charges, as well as the connection charges, varies and must be requested from the utility provider.

Suppliers in this sense can be water supply associations, municipal utilities, municipal companies or companies under private law.
