Inclusion council for people with disabilities

Goal
The aim of the Advisory Board is to promote, protect and guarantee the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms by all people with disabilities and to promote respect for their inherent dignity. In order to achieve these goals, the Advisory Board provides people with disabilities with a platform that enables them to actively participate in socio-political developments in Idar-Oberstein.
Latest news
At the most recent meeting of the Inclusion Advisory Board, the focus was not only on the debriefing of the previous meeting, but also on the development of projects that had already begun. Chairman Horst Müller presented the letter to the Supervisory and Service Directorate (ADD) in Trier, which refers to the loss of lessons due to a lack of staff at the Peter Caesar School in Idar-Oberstein. The ADD responsible for the school has not yet responded to the letter. The chairman is in contact with the school management, which is working hard to resolve the problem.
Another point was the Inclusion Advisory Board's inquiry to institutions and facilities in the city as to whether a reduction in admission prices for people with disabilities was possible. Both Edelsteinminen GmbH, with its sights Steinkaulenberg and Historische Weiherschleife, and the Jakob Bengel Foundation, as operator of the Jakob Bengel industrial monument, intend to examine the request in their committees in the near future. In this context, the Culture Committee should also examine what measures could be taken at municipal events, for example to enable people in low-income institutions to participate more in the rich cultural life of Idar-Oberstein.
Another aspect of integrating people with disabilities more strongly into the community is sport. A round table with the city's major clubs is to be held in the coming year.
Chairman Müller presented District Administrator Miroslaw Kowalski's response to the letter from the Inclusion Advisory Board. In this letter, the committee had called for greater involvement of disabled people in the district administration's project planning. The District Administrator expressly welcomed the creation of the advisory board and thanked it for its work. However, there has not yet been any positive feedback on the core demand for an action plan for people with disabilities at district level. A personal discussion between representatives of the district administration and the Inclusion Advisory Board is to be initiated in order to improve mutual understanding.
The next consultation hour of the Inclusion Advisory Board will take place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the "Glaskasten" at Georg-Maus-Straße 2. The next meeting of the Inclusion Advisory Board will also take place on December 11 at 17:00. This will take place as a meeting of people with disabilities and is intended to give interested citizens the opportunity to experience the work of the advisory board in person to mark its first anniversary. An invitation will be sent out via the press and the city's official channels in due course.
