Latest news
In the run-up to the meeting on 19.02.2026, the advisory board had submitted a number of suggestions on how pedestrian paths could be made more accessible for people with wheelchairs or walking aids. The meeting was therefore also attended by the responsible employee from the road traffic authority. Various priority streets were discussed in a lively debate. Due to the general conditions, only one street can currently be remedied: In Mainzer Straße, parking lines are to be tightened to ensure compliance with parking regulations.
A major concern of the advisory board is to ensure that people with disabilities can participate better in the cultural and sporting life of the city. A campaign from the district of Bad Kreuznach was cited as an example: At the Kulturloge, remaining tickets are distributed to people on low incomes with the involvement of numerous players such as the Soonwald Foundation and the Lions Club. The advisory board for people with disabilities would like to see a similar solution for the city of Idar-Oberstein. Contact is to be made with the sponsors in order to examine cooperation or at least to be able to benefit from their experience.
The promotion of sports clubs with active inclusion is to be discussed with the relevant departments of the city administration in the near future in order to find a sustainable solution for people with disabilities and clubs. In order to promote inclusion in sport, advisory board chairman Horst Müller has also contacted a sports inclusion pilot from the state sports association based in the district in order to receive professional advice on the project.
The Chairman also reported on a good discussion with District Administrator Miroslaw Kowalski, whom he has invited to attend one of the upcoming meetings. Contact with the head of the district administration's social services department has also been intensified in the meantime. The parties involved from the district and city would like to work even more closely together on the topic of inclusion in the future.
The next consultation hour of the Inclusion Advisory Board will exceptionally take place on 19.03.2026 at 15:00 in the mayor's meeting room, as the city administration's postal voting office is currently set up in the "glass box". The next meeting of the advisory board will take place on 24.03.2026 at 17:00 in the meeting room of the city administration.
