The biggest change this season: Due to renovation work at the Stadttheater, events will take place at the Messe Idar-Oberstein. But the most important things remain the same: The program offers vibrant theater, compelling stories, and special evenings with exceptional artists. For season ticket holders, too, as little as possible will change. That’s why your seats will be arranged in the same way at the Messe as they usually are at the Stadttheater.
Chocolate for the Pastor
The program kicks off on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. with the production “Chocolat,” an enchanting fairy tale for adults featuring rousing live music in the style of Django Reinhardt. This fascinating blend of theater, reading, and concert is brought to the stage by the Sagas Ensemble.
The play is based on the film “Chocolat,” which won numerous international awards and features a star-studded cast including Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp. The story: A young, single mother opens a pâtisserie—a small sanctuary for the finest chocolates—on the church square of a small village in southern France. For the village priest, this kind of “temptation” is absolutely unacceptable. He strictly forbids the members of his congregation from having any contact with the young woman—and becomes her greatest adversary. In an extremely amusing way, two worldviews that could not be more different clash: aversion to anything foreign on the one hand, and openness and enjoyment on the other.
This story is brought to life by a virtuoso quartet and the fascinating acting duo Ann-Kathrin Kramer and Harald Krassnitzer. For more than twenty years, she has been among the cream of the crop of German-speaking film actresses. For many years, he has embodied the wonderful Viennese “Tatort” detective. The grumpy old man and the charming seductress—two characters that are practically tailor-made for these two likable actors.
