Café Ella’s is a branch of Lebenshilfe/Werkstatt, an organization for people with disabilities. Here, people with and without disabilities work side by side. Together, they ensure that guests feel comfortable. The offerings range from newspapers and beverages to sweets and meals, as well as various products that make excellent gifts. The focus is not only on the wishes of the customers. The café also tailors its offerings to the abilities of its employees and prioritizes social interaction, quality, fairness, local sourcing, and sustainability.
A Name with a History
The name “Ella’s” pays tribute to Ella Haupt, the founder of Lebenshilfe e.V. Obere Nahe in 1963. Today, the association is the majority shareholder of Lebenshilfe gGmbH. With approximately 175 employees, Lebenshilfe supports more than 400 people with disabilities in the Birkenfeld district through its facilities and services. During a visit to Café Ella’s, Sarah Wagner from the city’s economic development office delivered the documentation for the new acceptance point and discussed the final details with café manager Bettina Welschbach and educational specialist Nicole Kalckbrenner. Everyone involved agreed on one thing: the Idar-Oberstein gift certificate is an attractive way to keep spending power in the city while also offering customers a flexible gift option.
