The scent of mulled wine, the sound of Christmas carols, and a festively lit Schleiferplatz: From December 10 to 12, 2026, the Idar district of Idar-Oberstein will be transformed into a true winter wonderland. The “Idar-Oberstein Advent Glow” is now in its fourth year and promises to take visitors on an enjoyable and unforgettable journey through the Advent season. The anticipation is palpable! The festively decorated market on Schleiferplatz will once again be the center of Christmas magic this year. A market dedicated purely to indulgence, it will make the hearts of young and old alike beat faster with its diverse selection of Christmas food and drinks and its varied program.
The official opening of this year’s “Adventsglühen” will take place on Thursday, December 10, at 5 p.m. Afterward, the well-known DJ KFR, aka Flo Reidenbach, will provide the perfect musical backdrop to get guests in the pre-Christmas spirit. It’s a great opportunity to ring in the festive season with colleagues at a “Winter After Work” event.
On Friday, December 11, the Christmas market stalls will open as early as 2:00 p.m. Then it’s time to feast to your heart’s content, enjoy some hot punch, and experience the special atmosphere at Schleiferplatz. A visit from the newly elected Gemstone Queen is sure to be a major draw. Starting at 3:30 p.m., she’ll be available for autographs and commemorative photos. Afterward, the “Idar-Obersteiner Bachwagge” will bring a healthy dose of nostalgia and festive cheer to the square with their traditional Christmas program.
After that, things will get lively and musical: The Happy Tones invite everyone to join the party and will provide top-notch entertainment until 9 p.m.
On Saturday, December 12, visitors can also look forward to a varied program for the whole family. Starting at 2:00 p.m., the dance groups from TuS Tiefenstein will showcase their skills and bring energy to the stage. At 3:00 p.m., the “Magic Interactive Adventure” begins with Jakob Mathias and Lil. Here, guests of all ages can marvel, join in, and be enchanted by the world of magic. Starting at 4:30 p.m., the fairy-tale fun continues: Sabrina and Eva will enchant the audience as ice queens with their musical program. Meanwhile, even the youngest visitors will have a chance to participate: At a Christmas craft activity, children can let their creativity run wild and design their own little Christmas surprises. In the evening, Christmas music in a stylish setting will provide a festive finale at Schleiferplatz.
Anyone who’s in the mood for live music afterward can round out the evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Brasserie with the band “City Rock Projekt.”
Culinary delights and sustainable enjoyment
Of course, there’s no shortage of treats either: The market offers a wide variety of delicacies that provide the perfect blend of tradition and innovation. From hot mulled wine and “Hot Aperol” to glögg and warm gin, all the way to non-alcoholic beverages—there’s something for everyone here. The culinary selection ranges from traditional waffles and cakes to hearty dishes like langos, goulash, fried fish, and tarte flambée. Of course, Idar’s local restaurants are also looking forward to welcoming many guests. The 2,025 reusable cups collected this year will also be put to use. There will once again be a central dishwashing station to ensure sustainability.
“We’re really looking forward to a peaceful, joyful, and delightful Advent season with lots of visitors,” say Sarah Wagner of the city’s economic development office and Diana Spornitz, the new executive director of the city marketing association, expressing their anticipation.
Advent glitter - a celebration of the art of jewelry
Saturday, December 12, also offers a special highlight: Under the theme “Advent Sparkle,” regional jewelry designers will open their studios for Advent shopping from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Specifically, these include Andrea Sohne at Kiesstraße 28, Peter Lind at Mainzer Straße 24, Ulrike Weyrich – Design in Edelstein – at Hauptstraße 72, and Ester Ackermann in Oberbrombach (Oberer Hirnberg 15). From December 10 to 13, 2026, Tanja Falkenhayer – Emmert Design and Kerstin Kavalirek will showcase their jewelry at Gaby Wandscher’s studio at Ginsterweg 1.
