The Idar-Oberstein City Theater has been closed since mid-May of this year for renovations to its building systems, particularly the fire alarm and emergency lighting systems. The plan was to complete the work by the end of 2026.
However, due to delays in the construction process, this schedule cannot be met. The main reason for this is the termination of the contract with the specialist planner who was initially commissioned. This made it necessary to hire and train a new specialist planner. As a result, it also became apparent that the new emergency power system to be installed has a long lead time.
To ensure that the events already scheduled to take place at the Stadttheater from January through April 2027 can proceed as planned, they will be moved to the Idar-Oberstein Exhibition Center. The new schedule for the renovation project calls for the work to be completed by May 31, 2027, at the latest.
