On May 9, the Wasenstraße neighborhood came together in the courtyard of the Flurschule to celebrate the traditional Wasenfest. The residents of the neighborhood not only came together but also showed what they have to offer. The event was organized by the neighbourhood management and the municipal building authority, but the festival is ultimately run by the many supporting local activists. Once again this year, the Evangelical Church of Christ, the Wurzelwerk daycare center, the daycare center social work, TV-Oberstein, an artist, the youth employment agency, the Kreuznacher Diakonie foundation, the advisory board for migration and the migration social work refinanced by the city provided a colorful range of creative, movement, information and food activities. Lord Mayor Frank Frühauf welcomed the attendees and the German Gemstone Queen gave each child a gemstone from her treasure chest.
With the sun shining brightly, coffee, cake and sausages, the adults not only got talking to each other, but also about the social offers and construction measures in the neighborhood, while the children ran around, did arts and crafts and painted. The occasion was the 'Day of Urban Development', on which cities and municipalities throughout Germany show how they are developing their neighborhoods. In Idar-Oberstein, this became a concrete offer: Inform, meet and experience how the urban quarter is changing step by step with the help of structural and social measures. The information evening on energy-efficient refurbishment that followed the Wasenfest demonstrated how people can make their own contribution. The consumer advice center and the renovation management team provided information on procedures and funding opportunities in the St. Walburga parish hall.
