The cemetery in the Georg-Weierbach district has been given a new, dignified centerpiece. The new resting park has been officially completed. The park combines modern design elements with natural planting and offers space for a total of 24 new gravesites, which can be purchased after a death. The construction yard implemented the redesign.
Harmonious overall picture at the memorial
As part of the work, the planting areas in the cemetery grounds were completely restructured. The existing memorial was harmoniously integrated into the overall concept. The associated planting bed, which in the past had an annually changing planting, was given a permanent replanting. As stipulated in the original decision, one of two newly planted magnolias now forms the visual focal point behind the memorial.
Nature in constant change
When selecting the flora, the planners focused on dynamism and diversity. The concept is mainly based on robust perennials and flowering shrubs. In the coming fall, the area will also be planted with numerous flower bulbs. The aim of the design is for different plants to bloom almost all year round. This means that the appearance of the grounds will change continuously with the seasons. This means that relatives are presented with a new, lively picture every time they visit. The magnolias, which bloom early in April and May, are a clear sign of hope as symbols of the awakening of nature and the continuation of life.
Corten steel as a symbol of transience
The structural features also follow a profound symbolism. In the center of the tranquility park, two new benches invite visitors to linger and remember. The actual resting area extends between the seating and the rectangular flower and candle bed.
Both the seating and the storage area are made of pre-rusted Corten steel. The characteristic patina of the material is intended to remind visitors of the transience of life. The flower and candle shelf is filled with white stones that are precisely color-coordinated with the seats of the benches. This combination gives the entire installation a harmonious, modern and peaceful expression.
