Their aim is to present the heating plan by the end of 2026. Several phases will be completed before the heating plan is finalized. First, an analysis of the current situation will be carried out, which will form the basis for analyzing the energy-saving potential for space heating, hot water and process heat. The local potential for renewable energies is also determined. The results are used to develop a target scenario and a heating strategy. The heating plan identifies areas in Idar-Oberstein that are likely to be suitable for heat or hydrogen networks or can be supplied decentrally via systems in or on buildings, for example heat pumps.
The office presented the initial results of its investigations at the most recent meeting of the Construction, Infrastructure and Environment Committee. It is currently in the inventory analysis phase. Among other things, the types of buildings and their age categories, ownership structures, the types of energy sources used for heating, as well as information on sewers and surface water are being recorded.
Heat planning primarily serves as an orientation aid and strategic control element for the future development of heat supply in the city of Idar-Oberstein. The heat planning for owners shows whether a communal heat supply can be expected for the respective property in the coming years or whether the heat supply must continue to be provided by an individual heat supply system. The heat planning does not specify which specific heating technology must be used, but provides indications. Heat planning can also be used as a basis for the expansion, optimization and dismantling of energy infrastructures. It is important to note that the heating plan does not result in any legally binding specifications. It serves as a guide, for example, for homeowners who are about to replace their heating system or carry out similar conversions.
In order to achieve the broadest possible acceptance of the heating plan, citizens, local businesses and politicians will be regularly informed about interim results. Citizen events on the topic are also planned.
