The city of Idar-Oberstein is once again hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Festival this year. With this event, the City Council and city administration would like to thank those who volunteer in and for Idar-Oberstein. The Volunteer Festival will take place on Saturday, August 15, 2026, starting at 5:00 p.m. at the Idar-Oberstein Exhibition Center. Admission is free, but attendance is limited to 500 people. Therefore, registration is required.
Volunteer work plays a major role in Rhineland-Palatinate. That is why the state was also the partner state for “Ehrentag” (Day of Honor), an initiative launched by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to mark the anniversary of the Basic Law on May 23. “In Rhineland-Palatinate, 1.4 million people take on responsibility through volunteer work; their commitment strengthens democracy,” emphasized Minister President Gordon Schnieder on this occasion. In Idar-Oberstein, too, many people are active in clubs, organizations, and initiatives. “I am proud and grateful that these people are so deeply committed to their fellow citizens and take on social responsibility,” Mayor Frank Frühauf also emphasized. That is why the Volunteer Festival has been held since 2022 as a key component in promoting volunteerism.
The official part of the event includes awards for successful athletes and a short entertainment program. The a cappella group @bast will provide musical entertainment. Afterward, the city will treat participants to a buffet featuring both hot and cold dishes, and there will, of course, be plenty of opportunities for good conversation and lively discussion.
