As part of his series of company visits, Mayor Frank Frühauf, accompanied by representatives from the city’s economic development office, visited Gerbracht & Mönch Galvanotechnik GmbH in the Am Kreuz industrial park in Idar-Oberstein. Gerbracht & Mönch has specialized in metal surface finishing for over 70 years. The family-run company coats steel and die-cast zinc components using processes such as electrogalvanizing, chemical nickel plating, passivation, and zinc-nickel coatings, among others.
During a tour of the facility, visitors gained an interesting insight into manufacturing and daily production processes. The new production line, which the company will use to further expand its manufacturing capabilities, was also presented. The new production lines include the anodizing of aluminum and the chemical nickel plating of steel and non-ferrous metals. To this end, the company recently received funding from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate through the Joint Task “Improvement of the Regional Economic Structure” (GRW).
It became particularly clear just how much dedication goes into running this family-owned business. Three siblings work together in the business and run it with a passion for what they do—down-to-earth and practical, firmly rooted in the region and with long-standing business partners. This close connection to their own company and their personal, flexible dedication shape the day-to-day work and the corporate culture here.
“Our family-owned businesses are an important part of Idar-Oberstein’s economy. It’s wonderful to see how much passion people put into their work here while also investing in the future,” said Mayor Frank Frühauf.
In addition to getting a behind-the-scenes look, both sides used the visit as an opportunity for an open exchange about the company’s current development, as well as the challenges and opportunities facing Idar-Oberstein as a business location—and Germany as a whole. Such discussions are an important part of maintaining close ties between the city administration and local businesses.
