The City of Idar-Oberstein’s 2025 Arts and Culture Award was presented to the Tiefenstein Music Association. The city is now accepting nominations for this year’s award. Nominations may be submitted by any individual through the end of September.
Since 2002, the city of Idar-Oberstein has awarded the annual sponsorship prize for art and culture. It is endowed with 2,500 euros and the prize money is sponsored by Kreissparkasse Birkenfeld. The aim of the award is to support and initiate a wide range of artistic and cultural activities and disciplines. It can be awarded for outstanding artistic achievements as well as for special merits in the training of young artists. The prize is to be awarded primarily to individuals and groups from Idar-Oberstein.
The guidelines for the Cultural Award stipulate that nominations may only be submitted by individuals. Nominations from associations, political parties, institutions, or similar organizations will not be considered. Nominations for the Cultural Award may be submitted through September 30, 2026. This is a strict deadline, which means that proposals submitted after this date will not be considered. The same applies to anonymous proposals; nominations of previous award winners are also not permitted.
After the submission deadline, the Cultural Affairs Office reviews the eligibility of the nominations and forwards them to the jury. The jury consists of the mayor, the members of the Cultural Affairs Committee, and one representative each from the sponsor and the award winners from the past three years. In addition, the eligible proposals are published and the nominees are briefly introduced. The jury then selects the winner in a closed-door meeting.
- Proposals for the cultural award can be submitted in a sealed envelope with the reference "Kulturpreis" to the city administration, Georg-Maus-Straße 1, 55743 Idar-Oberstein. The complete funding guidelines and previous award winners can be found on the municipal website at www.idar-oberstein.de/kulturpreis.
