City park opens with two-day festival

The official opening on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 2 p.m. will be introduced by Lord Mayor Frank Frühauf. Visitors can then take part in a guided tour through the park and get to know the various stations. DJ Ilix will be providing the background music, while Eiscafé Tony will be treating guests with its ice cream van on both days. Sufficient food and drink will of course also be provided.

Saturday is all about the family, with a varied program for young and old. A skate workshop starts at 2 pm, followed by a best trick contest at 3.30 pm. Visitors can take part in various activities on the basketball court and volleyball court, while DJ Ilix provides the right atmosphere. Children will also get their money's worth with play activities, face painting and henna art. The highlight was the live performance by the band Solitary Street from 5 pm.

The city park, which emerged from the 2018 Future Workshop as a JumP-!O project and was created in collaboration with young people, is a real gem for Idar-Oberstein. Since the ground-breaking ceremony on August 8, 2023, the area directly adjacent to the Nahbollenbach Bike Park has developed into an impressive leisure area. With a wide range of activities such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, fitness equipment, a skate park and an inclusive swing, the park offers a variety of leisure activities. Thanks to its convenient location on the cycle path and good bus connections, the city park is easily accessible for all interested parties. It serves as a place of encounter, sport and recreation for the entire community and promises to become a central meeting place in the future.

The project was funded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland as part of the federal program "Renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture", by Kreissparkasse Birkenfeld, OIE AG, Bürkle-Stiftung and Julius Haupt GmbH.
