In November 2023, a new telecommunications system was installed at the city administration and the Idar-Oberstein public utility company. The 25 branch offices such as schools, daycare centers, city archives, city library, fire stations, tourist information, sewage treatment plants, indoor swimming pool and other facilities were also successively connected to this system. The new system also involved the introduction of new, four-digit extension numbers.
Until now, callers who were still using the old three-digit extension numbers were automatically put through to the new numbers. This automatic forwarding will end at the end of April 2024. From Thursday, May 2, 2024, callers who still dial the three-digit extension numbers will receive a recorded message directing them to the city's homepage. The employees of the city administration and works are listed there at www.idar-oberstein.de/team with their current contact details. Alternatively, these can be requested from the switchboard on 06781/64-0.
