23rd street theater
The street theater festival, organized by the Idar-Oberstein Cultural Office, transforms Christuskirchplatz in Oberstein into a fascinating oasis of cabaret in a lively downtown area with the OIE stage.
The two-day event showcases the very best in international performing arts, featuring the following artists:
Ana Jordão and Vincent Kollar blend the traditional circus discipline of hair hanging with dance, martial arts, and object manipulation. The German-Portuguese duo invites the audience to rediscover the boundless potential of the body, free from preconceptions. Masculinity and femininity, visibility and invisibility, reality and illusion, agency and manipulation: “a body and other objects” embraces ambiguities. Magnificent, rarely seen, captivating!
Attention, PRINCIPLE-DRIVEN PEOPLE and those who blindly follow authority: MURMUYO embodies active disobedience and deliberate rule-breaking. This anarchist clown takes over urban spaces with his provocations and creates the most incredible moments. In FISURA, the audience becomes an active participant in the urban thrill. With boundless imagination, plenty of humor, and a few surprises, MURMUYO creates grand urban theater. And chaos!
This Maag stands for extraordinary Alpine madness with EU-certified Swiss humor. Let yourself be surprised by a more-than-cool ski circus in the middle of the hot summer—because here, it’s not just the snow that’s art! Every show is handpicked and a one-of-a-kind interactive spectacle of comedy and fun. Everything is improvised on the spot, so it’s always fresh and yet different every time. A show you won’t want to miss! There’s something for everyone, and no one gets left out! You’d be better off missing something else—because everything else is old news!
"The Walking Ballroom" tells the disastrous story of the world's smallest ballroom. A humorous circus show for the whole family, where children laugh until they double over and adults rediscover their love of life—a clown show featuring tightrope acrobatics and tap dancing: aesthetically pleasing, uplifting, and featuring two extraordinarily eccentric characters.
Welcome to Kikiristan! Kikiristan is a fantasy land. A land of the future. There are musical ambassadors there. They tell stories of the past—of a forgotten world—and of their music. The musicians of Imperial Kikiristan play wind instruments. They make different kinds of music. And they play very well. They also do some crazy things while they play. It’s really funny.
With the magic of ink, these fabulous storytellers set out on stilts to bring words to life. They take passersby on a journey into stories without boundaries, fantastical worlds, and alchemy thought to be lost.
With tall towers of white boxes, five artists from the Benjamin Richter Company mingle right among the crowd. Curiosity becomes a game: boxes are stacked, thrown, and passed along—and the audience becomes part of the action. New games and choreographies constantly emerge through this collaborative effort. When glowing neon balls finally fly through the air in precise patterns, the space opens up to wonder and joy. The production CARE WITH HANDLE transforms the public square into a lively celebration of connection.
At the same time, organized by the Schmuckkultur Association, the 28th Gemstone Cutter and Goldsmith Market opens its doors below the Felsenkirche. More than 50 exhibitors will showcase precious, one-of-a-kind pieces and offer a glimpse into the fascinating world of jewelry design and traditional craftsmanship. This weekend, Idar-Oberstein will showcase just how closely art, culture, and craftsmanship can be intertwined. Whether you’re a quiet observer, an enthusiastic family, or a curious stroller—there’s something for everyone here. And best of all: Admission is free.
The program schedule will be posted shortly
