Apply for day registration for a vehicle

If you submit the application for a one-day registration in person:

• You or your representative must submit an application for a temporary registration for your new vehicle at the local vehicle registration office.
• The following information is recorded on site during same-day registration:
• for natural persons:
  • Last Name, Maiden Name, First Name
  • if applicable, a title or stage name
  • Date and place of birth, or, if the place of birth is unknown, country of birth
  • Gender and address
• for legal entities and authorities:
  • Name or Designation
  • Address
• for associations of persons (e.g. partnerships, corporations, registered associations):
  • Representation with data of natural or legal persons
  • Name of the association
• As part of the process, an automatic check is performed for:
  • Motor Vehicle Tax Arrears
  • Fee arrears according to the respective state law
• Once your temporary registration has been approved, you will receive a provisional registration certificate and the vehicle's license plate from the registration authority.
• They have the license plates made.
• Once you've attached the license plates, you can use your vehicle immediately until the end of the day.

Registration authorities of the district administrations or the city administrations of the independent and large district cities.

• The vehicle is subject to registration.
• The vehicle has not yet been registered.
• The vehicle has the following documentation:
  • Certificate of Conformity for EU Type Approval
  • For national type approval: Certificate of Registration, Part II, with the type and variant/version code numbers entered
  • For individual vehicle approval: Certificate of Individual Approval
• You have no significant outstanding fees or expenses from previous registration processes.
• You have no significant outstanding vehicle tax debts. This includes late payment penalties, interest, and late payment surcharges.

  • Identity card, eID card, BundID or electronic residence permit (eAT)
• legal entities:
  • BUND corporate account with ELSTER certificate
• Registration certificate part II with security code (formerly vehicle registration document)
• Proof of valid motor vehicle liability insurance with eVB number
• for the collection of vehicle tax:
  • Bank details or SEPA mandate of the owner of the vehicle
