Apply for day registration for a vehicle
Service description
Would you like to register a new vehicle for road use for one day? Then you must apply for a one-day registration at your vehicle registration office at your main place of residence.
A one-day registration is issued for new vehicles that have not yet had a previous owner, i.e. have not yet been registered. It is the first registration of a vehicle subject to registration. The day registration is always valid for the duration of the day on which the first registration takes effect. If you have a day registration, the prescribed license plates for that day do not require any stamp plates or sticker holders. When starting up the vehicle on public roads, you as the driver must display the temporary registration certificate in the vehicle so that it is clearly legible from the outside until the end of the day of first registration.
The provisional certificate of approval must contain the following information:
- Name of the licensing authority
- the application number
- the license plate number of the registered vehicle
- the date of the authorization decision
- the date of decommissioning
As soon as the date of first registration has expired, the vehicle is automatically deemed to be deregistered. You may then no longer drive the vehicle on the road. You do not need to apply for deregistration separately.
Both citizens and companies, for example car dealerships, fleet operators, insurance companies, automobile clubs or registration service providers, can apply for a one-day registration.
The person or company applying for the day registration is listed as the first owner on the registration certificate. The vehicle is then still considered a new vehicle if:
- the vehicle model is manufactured unchanged,
- the vehicle has no defects due to its service life and
- there are no more than 12 months between production and sale.
