Service description
You must apply for a replacement document for the operating license of your unregistered vehicle from
- Loss
- Theft
- Illegibility
If the operating license has been stolen, you must report this to the police. If you lose your operating license or it has been destroyed, the registration office may require you to make a declaration in lieu of an oath that your statements are correct.
If you have an unregistered vehicle that belongs to a type approved by the European Union (EU) and whose technical data is no longer available, you must apply for a replacement type approval at the registration office. This requires an expert opinion from an officially recognized expert or a technical service appointed to test complete vehicles of the respective vehicle class.
If the manufacturer no longer exists or the vehicle does not have a type approval, you must submit an expert opinion from an officially recognized expert or a technical service appointed to test complete vehicles in the relevant vehicle category. You can use the certificate to apply for a replacement type approval at the registration office.
Procedure
You must apply for a new operating license from your responsible licensing authority.
- If the technical data for the vehicle is stored at the registration office, a replacement document can be issued immediately.
- If the technical data for the vehicle is not stored, you must apply for a clearance certificate at the registration office. The clearance certificate must then be submitted to the manufacturer, who can issue a replacement type approval.
- If the manufacturer no longer exists or the vehicle does not have EU type approval, a clearance certificate from a testing organization must be submitted. The testing organization will issue a technical report. With the report from the testing organization, the registration office can issue you with the replacement type approval.
