Having an expired driver's license reissued
Service description
Card driving licenses issued from 19.01.2013 are valid for 15 years.
If the validity of your driving license is about to expire or has expired, you must apply for a new driving license, unless you renounce your driving license.
However, the time limit only affects the driving license document, not the underlying driving license.
Responsible body
The responsible authority in Rhineland-Palatinate is the district administration, in large cities belonging to a district or independent of a district the city administration.
Prerequisites
- You are resident in Germany.
- You must be the holder of a temporary driving license issued from 19.01.2013.
What documents are required?
- Identity card or passport, if necessary with confirmation of registration
- a current biometric photo (size 45 x 35 mm, portrait format, frontal view); information and examples can be found in the Bundesdruckerei's photo sample table
- Driver's license
