Applying for a category B extension to your driving license
Service description
With a class B driving license, you can drive motor vehicles with a maximum permissible total mass of 3.5 t and which are designed for no more than 8 people (in addition to the driver's seat).
You can transport trailers weighing less than 750 kg with category B driving license. If the total mass of the vehicle combination is a maximum of 3.5 t, the trailer may also weigh more than 750 kg.
The category B driving license is issued for an unlimited period.

Prerequisites
- You must be in possession of a driving license category.
- You must have your main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany
- The minimum age is 18 years. You can apply to extend your driving license at the earliest 6 months before reaching the minimum age.
What documents are required?
- Valid identity card or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
- Application for extension of driving license
- a biometric photo in accordance with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (size 45x35 mm)
- Eye test certificate (not older than two years)
- Proof of first aid training (if not already provided to the driving license authority)
- valid driver's license
- If applicable, a copy of the file card from the last issuing authority (if authority is different)
- Details of the driving school
What fees apply?
The fee is based on the applicable scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt ).
If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The practical test must be taken within 12 months of passing the theoretical test. Otherwise the theoretical examination loses its validity.

If a category AM, L or T driving license is extended to another category for the first time, a probationary period is set for the new category.
