Driving license for categories B and BE for accompanied driving from the age of 17
Service description
You can drive a category B and BE vehicle (passenger car) in Germany at the age of 17 if
- you have passed the driving test and
- you are accompanied by an authorized and previously appointed person.
You may drive the vehicle unaccompanied on the date of your 18th birthday.
However, if you drive a vehicle before your 18th birthday without being accompanied by a named person, your driving license will be revoked. In addition
- a fine,
- one point on the driving license register,
- the extension of the probationary period and
- the arrangement of an advanced training course.
Responsible body
The responsible authority in Rhineland-Palatinate is the district administration, in large cities belonging to a district or independent of a district the city administration.
Prerequisites
To participate in "accompanied driving from 17", you and the person accompanying you must meet certain requirements:
- You yourself have successfully completed driver's license training for category B.
- You can start your training at the age of 16 ½.
- After successfully completing the theoretical and practical test, you will receive a test certificate. You must carry this with you every time you drive, as it serves as your driving license together with your ID card.
- You will be accompanied on each journey by an authorized and previously designated person, who in turn
- must have reached the age of 30,
- have been in possession of a valid category B driving license (passenger car) for at least 5 years,
- observe the "0.5 per mille limit" and the ban on drugs when accompanying someone, even if you are driving the car,
- and who has no more than one point on the driving aptitude register.
- You yourself have successfully completed driver's license training for category B.
What documents are required?
- Valid identity card or passport (identity document can also be an electronic residence permit (eAT) or similar)
- with current registration certificate, if applicable
- Current biometric photo (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal view)
- Proof of first aid training
- Eye test certificate (not older than 2 years)
- Application form for participation in accompanied driving from the age of 17
- Application form for each accompanying person
What fees apply?
- The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
- If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.
