Applying for a category T driving license
Service description
With a category T driving license, colloquially known as a "large tractor driving license", you can drive the following vehicles with trailers:
- Tractors intended and used for agricultural or forestry purposes with a maximum design speed of 60 km/h (from 16 to 18 years: 40 km/h)
- self-propelled machinery and feed mixers intended and used for these purposes with a maximum design speed of 40 km/h
The driving license category T is issued for an unlimited period.
Driving license category T is a national category. It is only valid to a limited extent in other countries.
Responsible body
The local driving license authority at the city or district administration is responsible.
Prerequisites
- You must have your normal place of residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.
- You must have reached the minimum age of 16.
What documents are required?
- Valid identity card or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
- Current biometric photo (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal view)
- Eye test certificate (not older than 2 years)
- Proof of participation in a first aid training course
- Details of the driving school
What fees apply?
- The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
- If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The application for the initial issue of a driving license expires if you have not passed the theory test within 12 months of receiving the test order or the practical test within 12 months of passing the theory test.
