Crime prevention advisory board
Service description
What is the Crime Prevention Advisory Board of the City of Idar-Oberstein (KPB)?
The KPB is a municipal committee for crime prevention that was founded in April 1998 with the support of the Crime Prevention Control Center of the Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Infrastructure in Mainz. Permanent members, chaired by the head of the public order department, are the heads of the local police inspectorates (security and criminal police) as well as the respective heads of the public order department and the youth welfare office of the city. Management is the responsibility of the Public Order Office. If necessary, this core committee can be expanded to include experts, and working groups can be formed depending on the task at hand.
If you have any queries, comments or suggestions, the council's office can be contacted on the following telephone numbers:
Beigeordneter Marx (Chairman) 64-202,
Christel Hahn (office) 64-320.
The office is located in Building 2 of the city administration, Georg-Maus-Str. 2, Room 302, email address: ordnungsamt@idar-oberstein.de or christel.hahn@idar-oberstein.de.
What are the tasks and objectives of the KPB?The often isolated activities of the various authorities, associations and groups are to be permanently networked and coordinated through ongoing monitoring in order to join forces to counter the development of crime and prevent criminal offenses. Other priorities include improving the public's sense of security through education, support and advice for social groups as well as participation in victim support.
How can the objectives be achieved?
The KPB does not replace criminal prosecution by the police, nor the diverse activities of youth welfare offices, social authorities, countless private institutions or even the basic educational work at home. Rather, the KPB assumes a bundling and steering function in order to achieve the necessary impetus with relevant information and targeted support. Each individual should be encouraged to take the initiative, either alone or in a group, and to act in accordance with the key messages, especially when observing criminal acts: Don't look away, help in a considered manner, be available as a witness.
Are there crime prevention committees in other cities and municipalities?
There are over 100 other municipal committees in Rhineland-Palatinate, some of which are organized in a wide variety of ways and all of which pursue the same goal with different local focuses: Reducing crime by taking early countermeasures, providing information, helping those affected and eliminating conditions that promote crime. There is a regular exchange of views via the crime prevention control center. At state level, the State Prevention Council is the highest decision-making body. Information on prevention measures in Rhineland-Palatinate can be found on the Internet at"www.kriminalpraevention.rlp.de".
