Apply for a Replacement Driver's License
Service description
If your driver's license was revoked by a court ruling or by the driver's license office, you may reapply for it. You may do so once any suspension period that was imposed has expired. When you apply for a driver’s license, you must prove that you are once again capable and qualified to operate motor vehicles.
For most categories, a driver's license is issued for an indefinite period.
A driver's license is issued for a limited period for the following classes:
- C
- C1
- CE
- C1E
- D
- D1
- DE
- D1E
What documents are required?
- A valid ID card or passport, along with a current certificate of residence if applicable
- A recent biometric photo, 45x35 millimeters in size, portrait orientation, full-face shot
- Eye test certificate, not older than 2 years
- Proof of completion of a first-aid training course consisting of 9 sessions
For the application for driving license categories C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE or D1E additionally:
- medical certificate
- If a medical-psychological examination (MPU) is required, it is not necessary.
- ophthalmologic examination
For the application for driving license categories D, D1, DE, D1E additionally:
- Analysis of Specific Requirements
- Certificate of Good Conduct for Government Agencies

The fee is based on the Schedule of Fees for Road Traffic Measures (GebOSt). An additional shipping fee applies if the driver's license is mailed directly to your home address.What deadlines do I have to observe?
You can apply for a new driver's license at the earliest 6 months before the end of the suspension period.
