Applying for a new driving license
Service description
If your driving license has been revoked, you can reapply for it after the expiry of any specified suspension period. In the application process, you must prove that your ability and suitability to drive a motor vehicle have been restored.
The driving license is issued for an unlimited period.
Driving licenses for categories C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE and D1E are issued for a limited period.
What documents are required?
- Valid identity card or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
- Current biometric photo (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal view)
- Eye test certificate (not older than 2 years)
- Proof of participation in a first aid training course
For the application for driving license categories C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE or D1E additionally:
- medical certificate. If a medical-psychological examination (MPU) is required, this is not necessary.
- ophthalmologic examination
- For categories D1, D1E and D, DE additional examination of special requirements
For the application for driving license categories D, D1, DE, D1E additionally:
- Certificate of good conduct (required for every new license, not only for bus driving licenses)
What fees apply?
The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
You can apply for a new driver's license at the earliest 6 months before the end of the suspension period.
