Take advantage of advice on enrolling a child in daycare or childminding
Service description
Child day care includes the care and support of your child in a child day care facility (crèche, kindergarten, after-school care) or a child day care center.
The day care facilities have the following tasks:- They promote the child's development into a self-determined, independent and socially competent personality.
- They support and supplement the upbringing and education in the family.
- They help parents to better reconcile working life, child rearing and family care.
The support mandate includes the upbringing, education and care of the child. It relates to the child's social, emotional, physical and mental development. It includes the teaching of guiding values and rules.
The support should be based on the following characteristics of the children:
- Age
- State of development
- linguistic and other skills
- Life situation
- Interests and needs
- Ethnic origin
The placement of a childcare place in a daycare facility for children takes place in cooperation with the responsible local youth welfare organization.
The scope of care varies from state to state.
What fees apply?
The amount of your costs will depend on your income, the size of your household and the amount of childcare you require.
Daycare centers:
In Rhineland-Palatinate, nursery places are free of charge from your child's 2nd birthday.
This means that a contribution can be charged for children up to their 2nd birthday and from school entry.
If you have several children, the contribution is often waived. The desired care period for your child is also relevant for the amount.
If you have no income of your own or a rather low income, you may be entitled to a free place: your youth welfare office will then bear the costs itself. The youth welfare office will advise you on this and you are also entitled to this.
Day care:
Daycare for your child often costs something. Sometimes this care still costs something even after the child's 2nd birthday.
Here too, if you have a low income / no income, you can get the costs covered by the youth welfare office.
What else should I know?
As a rule, places are offered for children who live near the daycare center. However, there are also companies with "company daycare centers" and other exceptional options.
Who decides whether I get a place for my child?
Whether a place is allocated by the daycare center itself or by the youth welfare office depends on the local regulations. You can find out if you simply ask.
What do I do if I can't find a place myself?
Your youth welfare office is responsible for helping you find a place. The youth welfare offices are obliged to inform parents or parents' parents about the places available and the educational concept of the facilities and to advise them on their choice.
