Sewage charge

Sewage fees and sewage charges are levied based on municipal ordinances. The amounts vary by location.

As a property owner, you pay a one-time sewage charge to cover a portion of the costs for the construction or improvement of the overall facilities of the municipality or the sewage association.

The wastewater fee is payable on an ongoing basis for the service provided (discharge and treatment of wastewater). It covers the costs of disposing of wastewater and stormwater.

There are volume-based fees and base fees.
The basis for the volume-based fee is drinking water consumption. If the wastewater fee is statutorily split into a wastewater fee and a stormwater fee, the stormwater fee is essentially calculated based on the sealed area of the property. In addition, many associations charge a base fee to cover costs that are not related to consumption.
