Service descriptionThe activities exempt from the travel trade license are set out in Sections 55a and 55b of the Trade Regulation Act.
A traveling trade license is not required for- occasionally offers goods for sale at trade fairs, exhibitions, public festivals or on special occasions with the permission of the competent authority
- sells home-grown products from agriculture and forestry, vegetable growing, fruit growing and horticulture, poultry farming and beekeeping as well as hunting and fishing; the same applies to the persons employed in the production company
- carries out activities of the type specified in § 55 Para. 1 No. 1 in the municipality of his place of residence or commercial establishment, provided the municipality has no more than 10,000 inhabitants
- sells goods for the blind and additional goods within the meaning of the law on the sale of goods for the blind and is in possession of a sales license for goods for the blind
- sells milk or milk products on the basis of a license pursuant to § 14 of the Milk Act; the same applies to the persons employed in the commercial enterprise
- arranges or concludes insurance contracts or building society contracts
- exercises a trade on the basis of a license in accordance with §§ 34a, 34b or 34c; the same applies to the persons employed in the business operation
- operates in a non-fixed place of business of a credit institution or a company within the meaning of Section 53b (1) sentence 1 or (7) of the German Banking Act (KWG ), if only customary banking transactions are conducted in this place of business, which these companies are authorized to conduct under the German Banking Act (KWG)
- sells food or other everyday goods from a non-fixed point of sale or another establishment at regular, shorter intervals at the same location
- offers printed works for sale on public paths, streets, squares or in other public places
The competent authority may allow exceptions to the requirement for a traveling trade license for special sales events

Self-employed traders must ensure that they notify the start of their trade in accordance with Section 55c GewO if they have not already notified their trade in accordance with Section 14 (1) to (3) GewO.
