Since May 1, 2006, vehicles must be equipped with a digital tachograph instead of a tachograph. Workshops therefore require a workshop card to install and calibrate the new digital recording equipment. The following data can be found on the workshop card:
- Name of the workshop
- Address of the workshop
- Name/first name of the owner
- Period of validity

Workshop cards are valid for 1 year.

The cost of processing the application for the workshop card by the State Trade Supervisory Office is EUR 30.00 for the first and subsequent issue. The cost of issuing the workshop card by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) is EUR 15.00. The workshop card will only be ordered from the Federal Motor Transport Authority once the complete application documents and payment of the total amount have been credited to the account of the responsible Trade Supervisory Office.
