If you would like to get married abroad, you can apply for a certificate of no impediment to marriage. Foreign authorities often require this certificate for a marriage to take place.
The certificate of no impediment to marriage confirms that, under German law, you are permitted to marry the person named therein; in other words, that you may, for example,
- are not already married,
- are legally competent,
- are of legal age.
You can also apply for a certificate of no impediment to marriage if you wish to enter into a civil partnership abroad.
