Register dog ownership
Service description
Every dog owner is obliged to register their dog.
The obligation to register is regulated in detail in the respective municipal statutes, as is the setting of the dog tax.
Among other things, the dog must be registered,
- for dogs older than three months. They must be identified by a transponder with an identification number
- When acquiring a new dog or moving in with a dog
- in the case of care or custody of a dog for a period of time specified in the local dog tax statutes
Please note that more differentiated and supplementary regulations apply to the keeping of so-called dangerous dogs.

What documents are required?
When registering in person, a current identity card or confirmation of registration must be presented.

What else should I know?
In addition, every dog owner is obliged to keep their dog on a lead on public roads within a town or in areas that cannot be seen. Outside a place, they must be kept on a lead immediately if other people approach or become visible.
Violations of the state law on dangerous dogs (LHundeG) can be punished with a fine of up to ten thousand euros. In addition, violations of the municipal bylaws can also be punished.
