Seniors' Advisory Council
Service description
Service description
Senior citizens' advisory councils are one way in which older people can participate in politics. In Rhineland-Palatinate, only 10% of older people are represented as elected representatives in municipal or city councils and district committees. This relatively low level of representation contrasts with the growing number of local advisory councils for senior citizens. The growing number of older people makes it virtually necessary for them to get involved, speak out and become active in an interest group.
Today, senior citizens want to participate more actively in social life than ever before and are looking for opportunities to contribute their experience and skills. Senior citizens' advisory councils offer a competent form of participation for older people. Through hearings, co-determination rights and initiatives in political bodies, particularly in the areas of social affairs, transport planning, housing, culture and healthcare, policy for older people is becoming increasingly important.
Senior citizens' policy has developed into a cross-sectional task.
