Apply for an express passport

• You can only apply for a passport using the express order procedure in person at the Citizens' Registration Office.
• The application will be filled out by the authority staff with you on site. All you have to do is sign it.
• When you apply, your fingerprints will be taken solely for the purpose of storing them in the passport chip.
  • usually a flat impression of the left and right index finger
  • Children under the age of 6 do not have to give a fingerprint.
• A signature must be provided by children aged 10 and over; younger children are permitted to sign if they are able to write.
• You will be notified when you can collect your Express Passport.
• You can authorize another person of legal age in writing to collect the documents from the authorities.
• For important reasons, you can also apply for the document in another municipality or at a German diplomatic mission abroad.

• You have German citizenship.
• You are present in person when you apply for your passport.
  • If you are applying for a passport for your child or someone you care for, they must also be present at the application.
• for children under the age of 18:
  • You have custody rights.
• There must be no grounds for refusing a passport. This includes, for example, the assumption that you will be able to obtain a passport by leaving the country.
  • a criminal prosecution,
  • the execution of a sentence or
  • want to evade a statutory maintenance obligation.

The person for whom the document is to be issued must appear in person when applying. This also applies to minors.

• Biometric digital passport photo: taken on-site at the government office or by a registered domestic photography service provider (photographer).
  • Exceptions may apply when applying at German diplomatic missions abroad and a paper passport photo may be required

  • Identity card
  • temporary identity card
  • Children's passport
• If applicable, civil status certificate such as:
  • Birth certificate
  • Marriage certificate
  • Civil partnership certificate
• in children or adolescents under the age of 18:
  • Identification documents of the custodial persons present
  • If applicable, a declaration of consent and a copy of the identity card of the person with custody who is not present
  • If there is only one parent or legal guardian, additional proof of custody
