With the "Sustainable inner cities and centers" funding programme, the city's business development department has succeeded in organizing a variety of events and attracting many people to the city centre. The after-work events on Schleiferplatz in particular have established themselves as a popular meeting place for after-work revelers. These events, which took place in cooperation with the Idar-Oberstein city marketing association, not only offered a variety of music styles - from big regional bands to smaller acts - but also an unforgettable atmosphere with chilled club sounds, good wine, delicious cocktails and a great atmosphere.
"People look forward to coming back to the city center when there is something attractive to offer them. The positive feedback from our events has shown this," says Sarah Wagner from the city's business development department. "Our after-work events have shown that there is a great desire for social encounters, music and a good time in the city center."
After-work events 2026: Even more reasons to visit the city center
Due to its great success in 2025, the popular after-work event series will be continued this year. The dates have already been set: Thursday, May 7, June 11, August 13 and September 3, 2026, each starting at 5 pm. The event in May will be organized in cooperation with WFG (Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft Kreis Birkenfeld mbH). The first band to entertain visitors will be ALLES. They already wowed the audience last year.
"It is important to us to have a wide range of music and to always offer our guests something new so that there is something for everyone," explains the business development agency. The after-work events invite people to end their working day together, make new contacts and celebrate life on Schleiferplatz. The economic development agency is also looking to the future and makes it clear that the organization of this popular series of events is inextricably linked to the city marketing association.
A highlight for all the senses: the perfect meeting place
"If you want to enjoy the end of the working day in a relaxed atmosphere, you've come to the right place. Experience the sunset with a drink in your hand and good music in your ears - it's the perfect way to end the day," says Caroline Pehke from the city's business development department. On these evenings, Schleiferplatz becomes a lively meeting place for colleagues, friends and anyone who wants to enjoy the summer evening in good company.
Advent glow: Christmas flair on the Schleiferplatz
In addition to the summer events, the Advent glow has also been a great success over the past two years. The Christmas market with its varied program attracted numerous visitors, especially the Thursday after-work event with its Christmas flair was very well received. The Advent season in the city center was another opportunity to celebrate community cohesion and enjoy the festive atmosphere. This year, the Advent Glow will take place again from December 10 to 12, 2026 and will once again offer a unique opportunity to experience the pre-Christmas magic on Schleiferplatz. Once again, the festive atmosphere and pre-Christmas magic are a joint product in which the city marketing association plays a key role.
