OPEN around the clock
Since the end of last year, the Idar-Oberstein City Library has been connected to a new online catalog called OPEN. The system offers everything a modern library needs for its presence on the Internet: a convenient search function for the media stock, access to e-media, a clearly structured user account and much more. The portal is also the access point for numerous digital services such as Onleihe Rheinland-Pfalz, OverDrive Rheinland-Pfalz, Riffreporter, phase6, Polylino, sofatutor and tigerbooks. OPEN also offers staff new features. They can now customize the pages and have a wide range of options for informing users about their various offers. And the best thing is that all these services are included in the one-off annual fee for library members.
New furniture for more flexibility
There are also some new pieces of furniture in the library. The Places Lodge, as it is called by the manufacturer, offers an acoustically effective retreat where one or two people can concentrate on reading, learning or working. As more and more people are using the library for precisely these purposes, they now have a suitable quiet zone at their disposal. There are also additional small work tables that are mobile and height-adjustable. Users can take them with them to the place where they want to work.
Oxana Wagner exhibits
A new exhibition has also been on display in the Idar-Oberstein public library since January. Under the title "Energy Paintings", Oxana Wagner will be presenting her paintings until the end of March 2026. The artist likes to work with shapes, symbols, colors and structures that radiate harmony, power and depth. Many of her works are inspired by mandalas or geometric elements that convey calm, order and energy. With her paintings, Oxana Wagner brings her thoughts, feelings and inner images to the canvas. Each of her works is created with a great deal of calm and joy in the creative process.
Spring cleaning in the library
Under the motto "Spring cleaning - making room for new things", there will also be a flea market in the city library from March 2 to 20, 2026. Items from the library's collection and media that have been donated to the library will be sold at prices starting at 1 euro.
