After Shrove Tuesday, the extension work on the B 422, Tiefensteiner Straße, will continue. After the first two construction sections were extended last year, the current extension section extends over a length of around 125 meters from the junction between the Barth & Frey car dealership and house number 157 to the Grimm retirement home, Tiefensteiner Straße 171. In this area, the road and sidewalks are being extended and the street lighting as well as the supply systems for water, sewer, gas, electricity and telecommunications are being renewed or renovated.
To carry out the work, the construction section will be fully closed and through traffic, including bus traffic, will be diverted over a wide area. The detour route via Veitsrodt and Vollmersbach, which was already in place last year, will be reactivated during the course of the day on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. A map of the detour route is available on the website www.idar-oberstein.de/baustellen. The actual work will then begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026, and the full closure will come into force. During the construction work, traffic from the Idar direction will be able to drive as far as the Barth & Frey car dealership and from the Kirschweiler direction as far as the Grimm retirement home. However, the motorhome parking area at the Weiherschleife will remain closed. The parking lot at the Weiherschleife can be accessed from the direction of Idar, but is also available for a possible round trip for public transport buses. Whether and to what extent this will result in changes to the bus routes compared to the previous year is yet to be announced.
The city administration asks residents and road users for their understanding for the inconvenience caused by the construction work.
