One of the boxes is located in the Wasenstraße urban development area in the area of the former Flurschule, the second in the Idar-Oberstein city park. The storage boxes contain a variety of play and sports equipment that can be borrowed by users via an app. The purchase of the sports boxes was funded by the state initiative "Rheinland-Pfalz - Land in Bewegung".
The purpose of the sports boxes is to provide the population with a simple way to take part in sporting activities and to invite children and young people in particular to play, have fun and meet outdoors. They make exercise possible for everyone, regardless of club membership or financial means. They support physical and mental health and increase well-being.
"With the sports boxes, you can do something effective and uncomplicated for your health, they are easy to operate via an app and can be used in a variety of ways," emphasized Mayor Frühauf. He thanked the sports manager of TV Oberstein, Kora Sauer, who had not only made the city administration aware of the funding program for the sports boxes, but had also supported the funding application with a letter of recommendation and advised the city on the choice of equipment. He also thanked the City Youth Welfare Office, the City Planning Department and the Civil Engineering Department for handling the project on behalf of the city.
"The boxes motivate a wide variety of user groups to exercise more; they can be used by daycare centers, schools, youth groups and families as well as by recreational athletes, social institutions and integration projects through to companies or senior citizen groups. Everything is conceivable and feasible," explained Frühauf. The sports boxes therefore contribute to a significant improvement in the quality of life in Idar-Oberstein. "I would therefore like to thank the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and everyone involved once again for their commitment to the purchase and maintenance of the two sports boxes."
