For this reason, the Public Order Office would like to emphasize that dog owners are obliged to remove their four-legged friends' droppings from public areas and public roads without delay. "Failure to comply with this removal obligation can be expensive," emphasizes the responsible public order officer, Mayor Friedrich Marx.
There are around 1,500 dogs in the city of Idar-Oberstein - and the number is rising. They deposit an estimated 175 kilograms of dog excrement every day, amounting to almost 65 tons per year. That is the equivalent of about six large truckloads. Of course, many dog owners behave properly, take bags or dog waste bags with them when they walk their pets and remove the 'landmines' immediately. "I would like to express my thanks for this exemplary behavior," said Mayor Marx.
At the same time, however, he also emphasizes that there are still irresponsible dog owners who show no understanding. "They simply open the door in the dark in the evening so that their dog can relieve itself somewhere in a green area or on the neighboring playground. "We will increasingly sanction this kind of behavior in the future," emphasizes the mayor. This is because it is an administrative offense that can be punished with a fine of up to 5,000 euros in accordance with the municipal hazard prevention ordinance.
