They regularly watered, weeded and documented. The children learned how important it is to look after the plants regularly and what they need to grow. "The children also learned where the potatoes come from and how long it takes from planting to harvesting," explains Sabrina Becker, head of the nursery. When the leaves turned brown and hung down, it wasn't long before the harvest. And of course, the children were looking forward to preparing a delicious dish together from the harvested potatoes. Because home-grown food simply tastes best.
It was the same with the daycare center's mirabelle plum harvest, which was particularly large this year. This meant that the children were not only able to eat the plums fresh from the tree, but also bake cakes and make jam. They weighed, measured, kneaded, cooked and laughed. Of course, the flour didn't always end up in the bowl.
The children were able to help with all of this and each child filed their recipes in their personal educational documentation folder. Who knows, maybe these will be used again in a few years with fond memories.
"Every year, we are delighted with our truly beautiful garden with its many different fruit trees, shrubs and our ever-changing flowerbed," emphasized Sabrina Becker. The diversity of nature is clearly visible. "It's like an adventure trip, we learn something new every year." The teachers and children would like to thank the janitors, who are always on hand with help and advice during the activities.
