In June, 36 young people and 17 supervisors and helpers from the Idar-Oberstein fire department took part in a four-day youth fire brigade camp in Hammerstein.
The first day began with setting up the campsite: team tents were erected, camp beds set up, luggage stowed away, cooking and catering facilities set up and cleaning plans drawn up.
In the afternoon, the young people assembled Swedish chairs, which then served as seats for the open-air movie with popcorn and slush ice cream in the evening.

At 6:30 pm, the guests of honor were welcomed to the official opening of the tent camp. These included Mayor Friedrich Marx, Chief Fire Officer Jörg Riemer and his deputy Frank Knapp, Head of the Public Order Office Thomas Müller, Fire and Disaster Protection Inspector Lukas Klein and the watch commanders and deputies of fire stations 1-4. Afterwards, the guests enjoyed dinner together at the camp.
On the second day, an excursion to the Bundeswehr fire department in Baumholder was on the agenda. The young people experienced three exciting stations there: a vehicle exhibition including water spraying with a water cannon, a practical demonstration on the fire simulator and an introduction to dealing with vegetation fires. Thanks to the dedicated comrades from the Bundeswehr fire department, this day was an extraordinary experience for the young people, with a great fun factor.
In the afternoon, there was time for leisure activities and swimming in the Nahe. In the evening, they went on a night hike to look for sticks to make bread and sausages for a campfire.

On the third day, the youth flame level 1 was taken. A total of 18
young people successfully took part. At the same time, seven young people completed the level 2 youth flame.
District youth fire warden Dominik Olck and the town's fire brigade management presented the young people with their well-earned badges and certificates. For the younger youngsters or those who had already passed the exams, crate climbing was offered, which promoted mutual trust and team spirit. In the evening, an exciting camp Olympics took place with numerous games.

On the last day, the camp beds were dismantled, the tents taken down, the campsite tidied up and everything loaded away. All in all, it was a successful camp, during which many new friendships were formed and the cohesion of the young people between the four fire stations was strengthened.
Particular emphasis must be placed on the great commitment of the young, motivated team of youth wardens and supervisors who contributed to the success of this weekend.
A big thank you also goes to all the sponsors without whom the camp would not have been possible.
