The Idar-Oberstein forestry district is carrying out extensive traffic safety and tree maintenance work on Hettenrodter Straße in the Tiefenstein district. For this purpose, the road must be closed to traffic from Monday, October 13 to Friday, October 17, 2025, from 8 am to 4 pm. Residents are asked to park their vehicles outside the closed area during these times. Through traffic from and in the direction of Hettenrodt will be diverted via Kirschweiler.
The forest district pursues the principle of securing the tree population in the long term and sustainably through targeted maintenance. To this end, the oak-dominated tree population along Hettenrodter Straße will be professionally maintained in order to preserve its vitality and the associated erosion protection, while at the same time ensuring the safety of residents and road users. The following work is planned for this purpose: Crown shortening and deadwood removal using rope climbing technology, habitat pruning and felling of individual trees that are growing into the crowns of the oaks and causing parts of the crown to die off due to shading. The resulting material should remain in the area as far as possible, decompose into humus and thus improve the water storage capacity of the soil. Parts of the felled trees are to be used as firewood and sold to the local population.
The forestry district asks residents and road users for their understanding for the inconvenience caused by the work.
