Founded in 1879 as the Hettstein Music Society, MV Tiefenstein celebrated its 145th anniversary in 2024. This makes it one of the oldest clubs in the city and it was awarded the Pro Musica plaque back in 2004.
The Tiefenstein Music Association describes itself as a modern wind orchestra with tradition. With his inspiring ideas, conductor Martin Wendel always succeeds in creating very special concerts with the orchestra of generations. Younger musicians can also take their first steps in the youth orchestra under the direction of Martin Wendel. Incidentally, the youth orchestra was already awarded the Culture Prize in 2010.
The Orchestra of Generations celebrated major highlights with its open-air concerts in 2023 at the historic Weiherschleife and in 2024 on the Veitsrodt market grounds. The same applies to this year's summer concert in the municipal theater, which was performed together with two young singing talents from Idar-Oberstein. In addition to these major events and the traditional annual Christmas concert on December 25, the orchestra will once again be taking part in the Christmas tree campaign in the Tiefenstein district and the town's Christmas party for senior citizens at the Idar-Oberstein exhibition center.
In addition to music, the MV Tiefenstein also attaches great importance to togetherness, which is practiced throughout the year in extra-musical events. With its diverse club activities, the Tiefenstein Music Association makes a lasting contribution to the cultural life of the town of Idar-Oberstein.
Lord Mayor Frank Frühauf informed Theresia Rommelfanger, Chairwoman of the Tiefenstein Music Association, of the jury's decision and congratulated her on being awarded the Culture Prize. "We are delighted with the decision and feel honored that the city of Idar-Oberstein has awarded us the Culture Prize," explained Rommelfanger. The official award ceremony will take place at the upcoming New Year's reception. It comes with prize money of 2,500 euros, which is sponsored by Kreissparkasse Birkenfeld.
