The Enzweiler children's daycare center was able to win book author Astrid Specovius as a reader for the nationwide Read Aloud Day. With lots of shining jewels, twinkling lights and harmonious musical accompaniment, she took the children into the fantasy world of Unter-Oberstein. Enthusiastic and curious, the future schoolchildren immersed themselves in the wonderful world of gemstones. The reading was accompanied by a Kamishibai, a Japanese storytelling theater with illustrated picture cards, so that the children had a real cinema experience.
Everyone watched with excitement as the little goldsmith's apprentice Achatis presented the king's child with a special gift. All the children's eyes lit up when they were allowed to hold real gemstones belonging to the main characters of the book in their hands - a fantastic story to touch and a great experience for everyone. "Reading aloud is very important for the children, it strengthens their language skills, trains their understanding of language and also promotes thinking and concentration. The children's imagination is stimulated, they develop a love of reading and this lays the foundation for learning to read later on," said Sabrina Becker, head of the daycare center, explaining the great importance of reading aloud for the children's development. "We are very happy that our nursery children were able to meet a real book author on Read Aloud Day."
Of course, the children had lots of questions for Astrid Specovius after the lecture: How are the books made? Did you draw the pictures yourself? Do you collect gemstones at home? The author patiently and extensively satisfied their curiosity and all the children came out of the lecture full of joy and thanked Astrid Specovius with a self-designed fantasy world of Unter-Oberstein.
