And there are still more than four months to go until the anniversary edition of this extraordinary sporting event. So there is still plenty of time to prepare for the two races and send off your registration.
As always, the stair run takes place on the third Sunday in September, so this year on 21 September 2025. The start and finish is at the Oberstein market square, from where the runners set off at 11 a.m. on the short course, which runs over 5.4 kilometers and has around 480 steps over 246 meters of altitude. The main run then starts at 12 noon, covering 8.1 kilometers with around 550 steps and 468 meters of elevation gain.
As always, the Hagner marathon team, which organizes the event for the city of Idar-Oberstein, is already in the midst of preparations for the stair run. Among other things, this includes putting together goody bags and equipping a raffle in which participants can win top-class prizes. This year's main prize is once again a beautiful amethyst druse weighing around 25 kilograms. The precious piece, which has a value in the four-digit range, was donated by the Welsch company from Hottenbach. Owner Jörg Welsch had already donated a druse for last year's race and would like to support the sporting event, which is known far beyond the city limits, once again. "It's great that we can count on so many sponsors and helpers to organize the stair race," said Ilonka and Rainer Hagner, thanking the donor for this generous gift.
To prepare for the stair run, the Hagner marathon team will once again be offering regular running meetings from May 20, 2025. Every Tuesday at 6.30 pm, runners can get to know the course and train for the competitions. The meeting point is always at the Oberstein market square.
