On Sunday, June 15, 2025, the artillery school and the city of Idar-Oberstein are organizing a civic festival on Schleiferplatz in the Idar district from 10.30 am to around 3 pm. The reason for the celebration is National Veterans' Day, which from 2025 will be held annually to honor the commitment and service of active and former soldiers. This event is also intended to intensify the sponsorship between the artillery school and the city of Idar-Oberstein and create space for encounters between citizens and soldiers. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Musikverein 1861 Idar-Oberstein and later by the Hunsrück DJs. The commander of the artillery school, Colonel Olaf Tuneke, and Lord Mayor Frank Frühauf cordially invite all citizens to attend the event.
Idar-Oberstein has been a garrison town and the cradle of the Bundeswehr's artillery since 1956. The location has been known for years for the cooperative relationship between the civilian and military departments on the one hand and the population and soldiers on the other.
To mark the first official Veterans' Day in Germany, a joint civic festival is now being held at which the public can meet the soldiers and civilian employees of the Bundeswehr at the
